Volunteering can be meaningful—and also emotionally complex.
If you’ve ever wondered, Am I doing enough? Is this actually helping? What if I make things worse?—you’re not alone.
Whether you're actively volunteering, just starting out, or considering it soon, this 3.5-hour workshop offers the clarity many volunteers never get: a foundational understanding of resilience—what it is (and isn’t), how it shows up, and how it shapes the way people heal, grow, and recover.
This isn’t about clinical tools or ‘fixing’ others. It’s about building science-backed conceptual clarity and grounded awareness—especially around the myth that resilience is just about personal grit. You’ll learn how resilience is actually shaped by relationships, systems, and intentional support—and how to work with that insight.
No prior experience is needed—just a willingness to reflect, learn, and support with purpose.
If you want to help without harm and show up in ways that truly honour the people you serve—start here.
This workshop is for you if:
You’re volunteering as a helpline supporter, befriender, peer supporter, youth mentor, or community worker—and want clarity on how to help without creating over-reliance.
You work pro bono in your professional field (e.g. legal, coaching, healthcare) and want to deepen your understanding of resilience when supporting others.
You’re on the Board, part of an advisory group, or manage volunteers—and want a systemic lens on resilience to guide strategy and support your team.
You’re preparing to start volunteering and want a grounded, ethical understanding of resilience before you begin.
You’re someone others naturally turn to in times of struggle—and want to show up with care and without asking people to “just push through.”
What you’ll learn
Why resilience is not about grit—and what truly shapes it
What well-meaning help can unintentionally reinforce (and how to avoid toxic positivity)
A simple resilience framework to help you recognise this skill in others and guide your support

What past participants are saying
From our May 2025 Resilience Training for human service professionals, participants shared how the session helped them reframe resilience, reflect more intentionally, and feel supported in their work:
“It was very informative with real life experiences. Trainer was definitely vulnerable in her sharing that showcased how human this work is and that it's always a work in progress.”
“Resilience shifted from only a personal trait of grit/grin and bear it to something more holistic and encompassing—intrinsic, relational, buildable, and a constant process of unfurling and becoming.”
“That resilience is not about ‘sucking it up’ but the space in between knowing and not knowing—which can be messy.”
“Inform my language when in conversation with people in my life experiencing trauma.”
“That I don't have to feel fearful of having to say the perfect thing, but rather work on co-creating support together. And that even silence can hold space.”

About the trainer:
Anisha Joseph is the founder of Spark Social Ventures, a social enterprise promoting trauma-informed and resilience-building practices.
A registered social worker in Singapore, she has over a decade of experience in violence against women, particularly sexual violence, training professionals and communities in trauma-informed responses.
Prior to founding Spark, Anisha was the head of the Sexual Assault Care Centre and Women’s Care Centre at AWARE, Singapore’s leading gender equality organisation. There, she led a multidisciplinary team of over 18 staff and 50+ volunteers—social workers, counsellors, lawyers, and more—offering holistic, trauma-informed care to women in need and survivors of sexual assault. She also played a key role in shaping national conversations around sexual violence support services, consent, victim-blaming, and gender-based violence, while training schools, workplaces, and community groups in trauma-informed responses.
Anisha holds a Master’s degree in Social Work with a specialisation in Criminology and Justice. Her early work in India focused on prison reform and human rights, grounding her approach in social justice, empathy, and systemic understanding.
Join her trainings to not only learn the ‘what’ and ‘how’ of trauma-informed resilience building practice, but to reconnect with the ‘why’.
